Professional Water Pump Supply & Installation
The performance of a borehole or any water source is only as good as the pump system that extracts and delivers the water. An incorrectly sized pump will either fail to meet demand, burn out prematurely from running against excessive head, or waste energy running well below its optimal operating point. Vajra Drill engineers every pump installation from first principles — matching pump type, power source, cable size, and control system to your specific borehole yield, static and dynamic water levels, delivery head, and consumption demand.
We supply and install pumps from leading manufacturers including Grundfos, Pedrollo, Lorentz, Shimge, and Davis & Shirtliff — selected to suit the application, budget, and local service network. All our pump installations comply with WRA requirements and come with commissioning certificates and manufacturer warranties.
Whether you need a new pump for a freshly drilled borehole, a replacement for a failed unit, a solar upgrade to eliminate electricity bills, or a booster system for a multi-storey building — our pump engineers will design the right solution.
Our Water Pumping Services
We cover every aspect of pump supply, installation, and support for both new and existing water systems.
Submersible Borehole Pump Installation
Supply and installation of submersible pumps for boreholes from 30m to 600m depth. We calculate the correct pump curve, motor kW, rising main diameter, and electrical panel specifications based on borehole yield, static level, and required delivery head — ensuring reliable performance and a long service life.
Solar-Powered Borehole Pumps
Solar pump systems eliminate mains electricity dependency and running costs. We design and install complete solar pump systems including DC or AC submersible pumps, solar panels, MPPT controllers or VFDs, and mounting structures. Suitable for domestic, irrigation, and livestock water supply where grid power is unavailable or expensive.
View Solar Pumps →Pressure Booster Pump Systems
Installation of pressure booster pumps and pump sets for buildings, apartments, hotels, and commercial facilities requiring consistent water pressure across multiple floors. We specify the correct pump set, pressure vessel, and pressure switch settings for your building's height and peak demand.
Surface & Centrifugal Pumps
Supply and installation of self-priming surface pumps for shallow wells, tanks, rivers, and dams. Suitable for irrigation, construction dewatering, and domestic water supply from open water sources within suction lift range. We also install multistage centrifugal pumps for higher head applications.
Pump Replacement & Rehabilitation
Retrieval and replacement of failed submersible pumps, including re-assessment of pump sizing to match current borehole performance. We also service and refurbish pumps in-house, and carry a wide stock of replacement impellers, motors, and seals for common pump models.
Pump Maintenance Contracts
Scheduled preventive maintenance for submersible pumps, surface pumps, and booster sets. Our maintenance programme includes motor insulation testing, flow rate checks, inspection of rising mains and fittings, electrical panel testing, and replacement of wearing parts before failure — minimising costly emergency downtime.
How We Size Your Pump System
Correct pump selection requires detailed engineering calculations — not guesswork. Our process ensures the pump you get is exactly right for your borehole and water demand.
-
1Borehole Data Collection
We gather your borehole pump test results, static water level, dynamic water level at yield, and borehole casing diameter. If this data is unavailable, we conduct step tests to establish safe yield parameters.
-
2Demand Assessment
We calculate your daily water demand (person-count for domestic, process requirements for commercial) and peak instantaneous flow rate to determine required pump output in m³/hour.
-
3Total Dynamic Head Calculation
Total Dynamic Head (TDH) = static water level + drawdown + friction losses in rising main + delivery head. This determines the pump's required operating point on its performance curve.
-
4Pump & Motor Selection
We select a pump model whose performance curve passes through the required duty point (flow rate + TDH) at maximum efficiency. Motor kW is sized with appropriate service factor and starter protection.
-
5Cable & Panel Sizing
Rising main diameter (to minimise friction losses), submersible cable cross-section (to limit voltage drop), and control panel (soft starter or DOL) are all sized correctly for reliable long-term operation.
-
6Installation & Commissioning
The pump is installed at the correct setting depth, electrical connections made and tested, and the system commissioned. We record operating parameters (current draw, flow rate, pressure) and issue a commissioning certificate.

Why Choose Vajra Drill for Pump Installation?
Engineering-Led Design
We calculate pump duty points properly — not guess by rule of thumb. Every pump we install is engineered for the specific borehole and demand profile, maximising efficiency and lifespan.
Solar Expertise
We are specialists in solar-powered pump systems. We correctly size PV panels, MPPT controllers, and pump motors together — many installers size panels independently from the pump, leading to underperformance.
Quality Brands Stocked
We stock and install Grundfos, Lorentz, Pedrollo, Shimge, and Davis & Shirtliff pumps — all with genuine spare parts availability and manufacturer warranties honoured in Kenya.
Full Electrical & Civil Works
We handle all associated works — panel wiring, cable trenching, pump chamber construction, rising main installation, and pressure vessel fitting — under one contract.
After-Sales Support
We offer maintenance contracts and rapid-response pump repair services. Our teams carry common pump spare parts and can retrieve, diagnose, and replace or repair most pumps within 24–48 hours.
Nationwide Coverage
Our pump installation teams operate across Kenya. We mobilise rapidly for both new installations and emergency pump replacements in Nairobi, Central, Eastern, Rift Valley, Coast, and Western regions.
Water Pumping FAQs
The best pump depends on your borehole yield, depth, and water demand. For most domestic boreholes (yield 1–5 m³/hr, depth 60–200m), a 4" submersible pump from Grundfos or Pedrollo is ideal. For solar-powered systems, Lorentz pumps are purpose-designed for DC solar input. We recommend getting a pump assessment rather than choosing a pump by brand or price alone.
The most common causes of premature pump failure are: incorrect pump sizing (pump oversized for the borehole yield, leading to dry running); undersized cable causing motor overheating; incorrect setting depth (pump set below the screened zone and pumping sand); and power quality issues (voltage fluctuations burning out motor windings). All of these are avoidable with proper engineering at installation.
Panel count depends on pump motor wattage, panel wattage, and peak sun hours at your location. For a typical 750W borehole pump motor in Nairobi (5.5 peak sun hours/day), approximately 4–6 x 300W panels are required. However, array sizing must account for MPPT efficiency, cable losses, and temperature derating — it is always best to have a proper solar pump system designed by an engineer.
Signs your pump may need attention: reduced flow rate or loss of pressure; motor drawing high current (tripping the breaker); pump running but delivering no water; unusual noise from the pump chamber; or sand in the water indicating the pump has descended below the screen. Call us for a pump assessment — we can often diagnose issues remotely before mobilising.
Yes. Hybrid systems use solar as the primary power source during daylight and automatically switch to grid power in low-light conditions or at night. This is ideal for high-demand installations where solar alone cannot guarantee 24-hour supply. We design and install hybrid solar-grid pump systems including the automatic transfer switchgear.
